Valles Marineris Goats

Our family has been working to develop a multipurpose goat breed for over a decade and a half. We are doing so to prepare for the eventual settlement off-planet by humans. We are calling this new breed the Valles Marineris Goat. Named for the biggest canyon in our solar system, the Valles Marineris Goat is a short, stocky, extremely fuzzy milking goat with short ears. We have been hybridizing the African Pygmy, Nigerian Dwarf, La Mancha, Oberhasli, and Angora breeds of goats to accomplish this goal, and have frequently achieved the desired phenotype, but are still working on a stable genotype. Our program consists of breeding four or more does in the spring, and another group in the fall. We select for the traits we want to keep and find homes for the others. Those not being selected are usually still pretty close to our standard but missing one or more of the traits we are breeding for. We are therefore looking for both farms that are interested in helping us continue the breeding program by acting as future breeding facility partners, and also for folks who are just looking for for smallish dairy goats. Contact us for availability; our goats are not sold for consumption as food.

KIDS

At this time, we have 7 baby goats, 4 boys and 3 girls, available from last fall’s breeding. We are expecting more kids in April.

$50 for bucklings and wethers

$100 for doelings

DOES

We have 3 does, proven breeders and milkers, who could form a core for new milking herds. They could be sold already bred if preferred, or they would make great workers in brush management.

$250 for does

$300 for pre-bred does

BUCKS

We currently have 4 bucks available for stud service. All are Valles Marineris type hybrids.

No bucks for sale at this time, but we rotate bucks out every couple of years, and they usually go for $50
